Pinion Display Type Specimen

Description:
Pinion Display is a modern decorative typeface that is constructed using simplified mechanical ornaments blended with irregular curves and flared serifs.  The result is a font with the consistent rhythm of a sans-serif and a touch of historical charm. The goal of the Pinion Display was to create a modern decorative face that is constructed as if using industrial techniques.  Characters were fabricated, rather than drawn, by joining together a variety of components.  Proportions and curved-forms were then fine-tuned to achieve balance and approachability when characters are combined into words.  Finally, capitals without ornaments and small caps were added to make the typeface more versatile.

Usage:
Pinion Display is designed to primarily be used at large point sizes.  On screen, ornaments on the capital letters become difficult to resolve at smaller point sizes although, this is less of a concern in print.  Use of the of the capital letters without ornaments, available through the Opentype Titling Alternates feature, will improve legibility at smaller point sizes and dense text.

Opentype Features:
For best performance and full access of features/characters, it is ideal to use Pinion Display with opentype-saavy applications.  Pinion Display was generated with Unicode values for all special characters and a large kerning table for users with non-openetype-saavy applications.  This allows all special characters to be accessed via a glyph/character map and have decent kerning however, one would not be able to dynamically switch amongst features and some character spacing will not be ideal.
